Wow wow wow!!! Let me say at the outset - this place is worth every mile and every minute! After reading about this little gem in the new edition of Our State magazine, we drove a little  more than hour to get there . We took about  an hour and a half to eat. DO NOT BE IN A HURRY to enjoy this experience ! That's the secret... if you're in a hurry, don't go!
Now all that said ... GO TO THIS JEWEL OF A SEAFOOD RESTAURANT!
This was our first time here so we decided to try several items ...
oh the chowder ... a  pure delight of just about every seafood morsel you can imagine in a yummy cream broth. - very generous portion that we shared.
Boom boom shrimp - perfectly prepared - lightly breaded with just the right heat.
CRAB DIP!!!!! Delightfully different - served with amazing seasoned crackers . You've got to try it!
I ordered the lime butter shrimp and scallops with the hush puppies and slaw  as my entree.
Never have I tasted scallops this wonderful. So tender and perfectly grilled ... the subtle lime flavor was such a refreshing change from the ordinary .
I enjoyed the sweet tea but there was a good wine selection .
If you have room for dessert try the real butter pound cake that the owner's mama bakes herself. (I got  mine to go for a "midnight snack")
My table mates ordered the shrimp Po Boy, the  maple salmon and shrimp platter, and a fried shrimp platter . All were pleased with their dinners but I still believe I out ordered  them .
A couple of observations about the staff... The owner / chef Danny Hayes is the most energetic positive perfectionist you'd ever want to meet. He was pumping up his servers and cheering them on and joking and greeting diners from his window in his kitchen overlooking the dining room /bar area. His joy was infectious and you felt welcome and at home and included in the whole experience . It's not a fancy place but it's a welcoming and fun place that I hope to visit again .
As we were leaving, we took our picture out front by the House of Fish sign... we were delighted when Chef Danny came out to join our photo ! I just wish yelp gave me the option to give 10 stars

This is a local favorite that only those who've lived in the area for years know about.

The atmosphere is extremely causal, everyone is relaxed and there is no need to dress up. I would recommend making reservations.

As someone who follows a gluten free diet, I call ahead to place my order and let the staff know when I am coming. They're super great about accommodating diets.

I would not bring a non-fish/ seafood eater here.

Was in town for work from Chicago and looking to get something nice and local and man did we make the right decision in giving this place a shot.

First of all everyone that worked here was as friendly as can be and it was great seeing the owner come out and great so many regulars with a hug.  It's nice when a place always feels intimate and connected.

Second and most importantly the food was fresh and delicious.  Best hush puppies and best shrimp and grits I've ever had.

I wish this place was closer to home because I'd make it a regular destination.

Not a good experience for me.  My fish was severely undercooked after a 45 minute wait.  The staff was friendly and the cook offered to fix my dish and not charge me.  I respectfully declined, and was happy they made an effort to correct the issue.  I must the leave a 3 star review only on the basis of my experience.  I was expecting superior food based off of all the reviews on Yelp. I pass on this place based on my experience and visits to other Seafood restaurants.

I walked in and was waiting to be seated. The owner personally came out and seated me. This speaks volumes in my eyes. I later found out they were short staffed. I placed me order and the food came out out in minutes.

I had the whiting, shrimp combo with fries and a salad. The food was amazing. Defense believe the hype. Well done Sir! You have a great establishment and even better customer service.
